The Winnipeg Model Railroad Club will be holding its monthly meeting on January 8 at 7:30 p.m.. The meeting will be held at the Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Ave. The meeting will feature the Klinic Karnaval with modelers presenting different model railroading techniques.

The Outeniqua Choo tjoe, a South African rail excursion billed as the last remaining scheduled steam train, has reopened its service this Fall. The route traveled by the service was damaged in a flood in 2006 and the excursion has not run since. A new route was established this year, running from George, South Africa to Mossel Bay was established. The excursion runs daily excluding Sundays until January 9, and then on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from January 11 to March 31, 2010.

The Kings Mountain Historical Museum is showing their 7th annual “Trains, Trains, Trains” exhibit until January 9, 2010.  The exhibit consists of an S Gauge layout running diesels and a live steam locomotive running through a winter themed setting.

Bachmann has released a new HO Scale UP DD40AX model. The model will be available in 4 road numbers, 6932, 6915, 6927, and 6943.  The model is DCC equipped for speed, direction, and lighting with a dual-mode NMRA decoder with 8-pin plug (the unit is designed for aftermarket sound installation).  Motivation comes from 2 skew wound motors with 4 flywheels through 16 drive wheels.  Details include LED headlight (constant lighting, weathered air intakes and exhaust stacks, scale 42″ wheels with RP25 wheel contours, and E-Z Mate® Mark II couplers.   Pricing is $125.

Bachmann has released a new N Scale 44 ton switcher.   The model is available in two unlettered paint schemes (yellow, and red/yellow), plus PRR, B&O, and New Haven.  The model is equipped with a dual mode DCC decoder for speed, direction, and lighting.  Motivation comes from a custom can motor dirving all eight wheels.  Detail features include LED headlights, scale 33″ wheels with NMRA wheel profile, and non-operating dummy knuckle couplers.  Pricing is $100.
